COLOUR AND HARMONY: THE ART OF COLOUR HEALING

COLOUR AND HARMONY: THE ART OF COLOUR HEALING

USING HUES TO CREATE A PEACEFUL AND INVITING ENVIRONMENT

Colour plays a big role in our lives, maybe more than we we are aware of, so there are many ways of using colours to have different desired effects on our emotions and wellbeing.

Just like harmonious frequencies from music, colour combinations can give off specific harmonies, thus dictating the ambience of a space.

COLOURS AND EMOTIONS: FENG SHUI

According to Feng Shui, earthy tones for example, create a calming and relaxing environment. Allowing the nervous system to switch off, encouraging the body to recharge. Browns and yellow colours are associate with the Earth element. This spectrum of colours is at the centre of the system and is a core place to start when desiging a space.

Each colour segment is associated with a different element, which carries it's own purpose and should be chosen in a specific position in a living space.

THE CHAKRA SYSTEM

Another way of looking at colours is from the chakra system. Each chakra is associated with a different colour, which in turn is associated with a specific aspect of one's life.

For example, the Root Chakra which is all about survival, roots, family, financial security is associated with reds and browns. Having these colours in your environement can give a grounding support and can assist in supporting these areas of your life.

The Sacral Chakra, orange, is about desires, what moves you. Both the aforementioned cover the more primordial aspects of being human, and are lower vibrational in that they provide an essential foundation for us to develop on.

The Solar Plexus Chakra, yellow, is connected with our intellect and our self-knwledge, how we identify with ourselves and inner-knowing.

The Heart Chakra, green, is about love and compassion. Wearing the colour green or having greens in your environment can help to open the heart encouraging feelings of empathy, unconditional love, and creativity. It can also be used to attract wealth and prosperity.

The Throat Chakra, blue, is to do with communication, with others but also with oneself. It has a lot to do with how you express yourself, your wants, needs and boundaries. Having the colour blue around you can assist in clearer and more authentic communication.

The Third Eye Carkra, indigo, is to do with your perception of the world around as well as yourself. It has to do with seeing things for what they really are and intuition. The colour indigo can help to enhance intuition and seeing the truth around you.

The Crown Chakra, violet or white, is connected with your spirirtuality and a heightened perception of the world around you. It is to do with cosmic consciousness, wisdom and enlightenment.

The healing power of colours can also be incorporated through clothing. White or beige colours in particular can be very healing and regenerative for the body and soul. These are also great colours to wear on a daily basis given that they reflect energy, preventing you from absorbing too many different energies from your surroundings.

Black on the other hand absorbs energies much more easily and so should be worn with caution.

The lighter the colour, the higher the frequency, the darker the colour the denser the frequency. There is a false perception now that we should only be incorporating higher and lighter frequencies into our life however, like with anything, there needs to be a balance. We need the lower vibrations and denser frequencies in our life to give us a strong foundation and secure roots in which the lighter frequencies can play off.
